StreamSets, a Software AG company, unveiled two reports highlighting the need for modern data integration: “Creating Order from Chaos: Governance in the Data Wild West,” and “Lifting the Lid on the Hidden Data Integration Problem.” This new research shows a widespread lack of data processes and policies among organizations, rising demand for data, and why many organizations fail to use the data at their disposal. By empowering organizations to leverage the hidden power of their data and launch a proven data governance strategy, these reports offer key insights for organizations undergoing digital transformation.

Research from “Creating Order from Chaos: Governance in the Data Wild West” reveals that 44% of organizations cannot maintain governance or automate policy controls around data. Likewise, 42% of organizations surveyed were unable to implement effective data security measures, leaving them vulnerable to data breaches and resulting in legal action. Blind spots created by the fast-paced demands of digital transformation and confusion over responsibility contribute to data visibility challenges leaving organizations vulnerable to security breaches, regulatory fines and reputational damage.

The second report, “Lifting the Lid on the Hidden Data Integration Problem,” builds on the findings of the first report, revealing how the proliferation of data sources and technology platforms has resulted in businesses operating with patchwork systems where data becomes siloed. These complex data environments and siloes have created friction in delivering data, and it’s holding businesses back. According to this research:

  • 68% of data leaders believe data friction prevents them from delivering data at the speed of business requests.
  • 59% of respondents said the acceleration of digital transformation priorities has created major data supply chain challenges.

The mix of increased demands placed on technical teams to deliver data and the chaos resulting from fractured data pipelines is creating integration friction that prevents businesses from using data effectively, resulting in data engineers spending 31% of their time troubleshooting and recoding broken data pipelines, according to response data.

These reports reveal why modern data integration has become vital to doing business. While many organizations have evolved to rely on data, few have managed to integrate data pipelines and eliminate visibility gaps while still meeting regulations. Getting real value out of an organization’s data while also safeguarding it from data leaks is key to a successful digital transformation.
